Joseph M. Maas

joe-smallJoseph M. Maas, CFA, CFP®, CLU, ChFC, MSFS, CCIM, CVA, ABAR, CM&AA, is a versatile financial advisor because he is certified in so many areas of expertise. He has earned certificates from nine prestigious organizations, and, with over two decades of financial industry experience, his unique core specialty is providing comprehensive investment management services for individual investors, business owners, and financial advisors.
Mr. Maas holds a variety of world renowned professional designations; he is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder, which is the world’s most respected investment professional’s achievement. In addition to the CFA, Mr. Maas is a certified valuation analyst (CVA) and is accredited in business appraisal review (ABAR). Mr. Maas’ professional capability also includes being a certified merger and acquisition advisor (CM&AA) trained and experienced in buying and selling middle-market companies with revenues from $5 million to $500 million.
Mr. Maas earned his reputation as a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), having fulfilled the requirements of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, and is also a chartered financial consultant (ChFC) qualified to provide comprehensive advanced financial planning.
Adding to Mr. Maas’ many skills are his specialties in life insurance and estate planning as a chartered life underwriter (CLU® and being a certified commercial investment member (CCIM™) with expertise in commercial and investment real estate. In 2000, Mr. Maas earned his Master of Science in Financial Services (MSFS) from The American College.
Mr. Maas established Synergy Financial Management as a 360-degree financial services boutique, providing a variety of solutions under one roof. With a team of capable and broadly experienced financial advisors, Synergy provides a complete mix of integrated financial services.
Expert in many fields, Mr. Maas is a member of numerous professional organizations; he has participated as a guest lecturer for the Washington State Bar Association and taught corporate finance as an adjunct professor at Seattle Pacific University. He also studied finance in Japan, Hong Kong, China, and Thailand.
In his personal time, Mr. Maas enjoys traveling with his wife and children and serving local charities.

John Angelo Flavin

John Angelo Flavin, ChFC®, CFP®, CLU®, CCIM™, AIF® is a Managing Principal with Synergy Financial Management. In this role, John coordinates the efforts of Synergy’s other team members in executing the financial planning and investment process. Because of his excellent attention to detail, every client’s financial plan is assured of successful implementation.
Mr. Flavin graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College where he earned both academic and athletic scholarships. After completing a postgraduate program in Baltimore, Maryland, John moved to Seattle and began his career in the financial services arena. Mr. Flavin holds the CFP, AIF, CLU, ChFC, and CCIM designations, as he is always looking to grow professionally to better serve his clients.
He enjoys speaking at industry conferences on topics ranging from client relations to 401(k) planning techniques. He has been quoted in several national investment industry publications such as Investment News and the Wall Street Journal.
In addition, Mr. Flavin is very active locally and internationally. He has served as the past Finance Council Chairman for a local parish, volunteers with various high school programs, and coaches wrestling at a local MMA gym where is also an active participant in their jiu jitsu program.
Internationally, he and his family have established schools, health care centers, and built homes for the poor in Nicaragua since 1989. He is an accomplished classical violinist, and has played since the 3rd grade.
Mr. Flavin’s true passion is spending time with his three younger children with his wife, Shannon. You can often find them running from one activity to another, as they enjoy their family time together.

Connie L. Peterson

Connie L. Peterson is Synergy Financial Management’s office manager and communications backbone. Connie is responsible for supporting the team by acting as a liaison between team members, other professionals, vendors, and clients. Further, she is responsible for coordinating and disseminating reports, research, and other information to all interested parties. It is her smiling voice you often hear when calling our offices.
Connie has 25 years of experience in client service, which allows her to excel at getting the job done. Further, her experience has provided her with extensive knowledge of several major financial institution’s back office systems and has given her the ability to diagnose bottlenecks and solve issues quickly. The Synergy Financial Management planning team and its clients greatly benefit from Connie’s operational experience and efforts.

Alex Kopelevich

Alex Kopelevich, CFA, brings over 14 years of professional investment experience. Prior to joining Synergy and co-founding Rowan Street Capital, Alex was a Portfolio Manager at a privately held investment advisor, where he was responsible for managing in excess of $300m in client assets. Previously, he spent 8 years as a Portfolio Manager and Equity Analyst at U.S. Trust Bank of America. He started his career as a Portfolio Analyst at Bank of New York Mellon. Mr. Kopelevich received his B.S. degree in Finance from University of Southern California (Marshall School of Business) in 2000. He holds the CFA designation and is a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco.
Alex is a sports and fitness fanatic. In his spare time, he enjoys swimming, weightlifting, martial arts, ice hockey and skiing.

Frank Roman

Frank Roman brings a unique perspective to Synergy with his specialized academic and pragmatic experience. Prior to joining Synergy as a financial analyst, Mr. Roman was a Mechanical Engineer at Boeing Commercial Airplanes where he designed functional test systems for the 747, 767, 777 and KC-46 Tanker programs. Previously, Frank was a Fracture Engineer for a publicly traded oil company in the Bakken and Three Forks formations where he surveyed, drilled or fracked over 100 oil and gas wells. Frank received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Idaho in 2013 and is a member of the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) as well as the NAA (National Aeronautics Association).
Frank is a licensed pilot with a high performance rating and has logged over 200 hours in various aircraft. He currently holds the National and World Speed Records for a C.1 class aircraft between Seattle, Washington and Boise, Idaho, and in 2017 he was awarded the FAI Louis Bleriot Medal for his aviation achievements. When he is not flying, Frank is hiking around Puget Sound with his wife and two children.
